The library design is part of the gradual reconstruction of the historical functionalist Ferra Palace in Florenc, Prague, currently occupied by the Institute of Czech Literature of the Czech Academy of Sciences. The building is a valuable example of functionalist architecture. However, over the course of the 20th century, it underwent numerous inappropriate interventions that compromised its architectural quality.

Our task was to remove these interventions, support the original architectural values, and at the same time respond to contemporary environmental and functional demands.

I was involved in the preparation of permit documentation, implementation and tender documentation, as well as regular site inspections during the construction process. Our goal was to re-establish a connection to the courtyard through large glazed surfaces and to ensure maximum natural light for the library’s readers. We aimed for a contemporary visual language with respect for the context.
